Epicenter network runs a modified services package with many features. These features can be overwhelming sometimes, so we are more than happy to help you if you get confused or require help. To receive services help, simply join #ecnet and ask your question. A brief description of each service we offer is below.

Nickserv - A utility to help users maintain and register nicknames. Once registered with nickserv, you may register channels, receieve memos, and use a host of other services. To get help type /nickserv help.

Chanserv - Chanserv is a utility that was created to prevent channel takeovers which were always such a pain in the past and to help channel owners maintain their channels. It includes two different ways to grant permissions to users as well as a plethora of other options. /Chanserv help for more information.

Hostserv - Hostserv is a utility which helps users and operators maintain virtual hostnames. Using hostserv you can have your own vhost (a special entry after the @ sign in your whois information). This vhost does nothing more than customize your nick to yourself. To get more information about requesting a vhost, type /hostserv help.

Memoserv - Memoserv is a service which allows us to send memos to individual users as well as groups of users regardless of if they're currently online. Using memoserv one might send a message to all of one's friends to invite them to come to a new room, or to explain a prolonged abscence. Memoserv is quite handy, for more information type /memoserv help.

Along with the basic services which anyone can utilize to enhance their IRC experience, there are also a set of services controlled by the operators of the network. These services assist in network security, defense, and day to day activities. Each one is described briefly below, as well as anything a normal user may do or who they may contact to use it.

Operserv - The operserv service is a restricted service and may only be used by ECNet staff. This service contains many macros which ease our work, as well as acting as a central logging and auditing point for operator power. If you are an operator, you may type /operserv help to get more information. If you are not an operator there is no reason or way to get access to this service.

EBattleServ - Extended Battleserv is a service that was born from the merging of our own BattleServ code with IRC Defender code to form a very useful and complex defense system. EBattleServ will only reply to operators and is used for a variety of purposes. If you see it in a channel, chances are an operator has it there for a specific reason. If you see it in a non-network maintenance channel you should contact an IRC Operator immediately, as this most likely indicates a problem.

DefServ - DefServ acts as a central point for the administration of three critical services clients: O, Q, and M. O monitors operational status and maintains many statistics as well as logs for network wide systems. M aids in the investigations of operator abuse. Q enforces security in channels which are under abuse or attack (bot floods, channel takeovers, anything that services can't handle Q will.). If you have issues in your channel please contact an operator and talk to them, chances are we can use Q or M to help aid you. Note you must be a channel founder (logged in) to request usage of Q or M on your channel, and it must be performed by an IRC operator. All requests for Q or M usage will be denied or affirmed by the operational staff, all decisions are final.
